1869 Horse-Drawn Hearse (Funeral Coach)
| |
Our 1869 Horse-Drawn Hearse (Funeral Coach) was built and used in England. It was used by the Protestant community as it displays a Protestant Cross and Crown on its roof. This unique one-of-a-kind piece was found in a York County barn by the late Ivan B. Dewald (1928-2006) in the early 1970’s. Ivan restored the hearse for the 1976 Bicentennial Parade in Quarryville where he owned and operated his own funeral business until retiring in 2002.
Andrew T. Scheid acquired the hearse after Ivan’s retirement. Ironically, after Ivan’s death in 2006 the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home handled Ivan’s funeral and lead his last funeral procession with his beloved 1869 Horse-Drawn Hearse to the Quarryville Cemetery.
This hearse is available for funeral services to families served by Scheid’s. However, it is limited to transporting cremation urns, infant/children-sized caskets or flowers. This is ideal for horse lovers, antique buffs or anyone wanting an unforgettable lasting tribute.
Unfortunately, the 1869 Hearse is unable to accommodate modern adult-sized caskets. However, we do have a Horse-Drawn Hearse available for a traditional adult funeral. The cost of this service is quoted on a individual basis, as each service handled by Scheid’s is custom. |
