Andrew T. Scheid is Lancaster County's most affordable cremation provider!

Cremation can be tailored to fit your personal needs and wants.  A lot of people believe that no services can be performed with cremation.  Fortunately, the same services can be chosen with cremation as there are with traditional burial.

Direct Cremation - This type of cremation service does not involve any sort of formal funeral service.  This service includes removal from place of death, obtaining cremation authorization and permits, obtaining information for death certification and obituary, assisting with veterans benefits and social security, and the cremation process.

Memorial Services - With any cremation service selected you can choose to have a service without the body present, that type of service is a Memorial Service.  This is a way for a family or friends to remember a loved one.  At this service you can choose to have the urn present.  This service can be held either at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home, a retirement community, or your place of worship.

Memorial Services with Graveside Service - Any Memorial Service can also conclude just like a funeral service with everyone joining the family at the cemetery for a committal service.  At this time the urn would be laid to rest with a brief service attended by friends and family.

Cremation Funeral Service with Viewing - Even when someone's request is to be cremated, the family may still choose to have a time to pay respect and to say good bye to their loved one.  Often times before the cremation process, many choose to have a public or private viewing with a funeral service.  This can be held at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home, your place of worship, or a retirement community.  We have a selection of caskets suitable for cremation or you can choose our ceremonial casket.  After the funeral service, we would then go to the crematory for the cremation to take place.  Once the cremains are returned back to the funeral home, we can then proceed with a graveside service, if you so desire.

Graveside Services - Another option to cremation, is once the cremains are returned back to the funeral home, we can have a public or private Graveside Service.  This service could be a little longer since there was not a Memorial Service held prior to.  This could be another way of remember your loved one.

Catholic Cremation Beliefs - The phenomenon of cremation is still largely unfamiliar and emotionally uncomfortable for some Catholics.  Although cremation has been a practice of the Catholic Church since 1963, restrictions allowed very few Catholics to choose it.  In recent years, changes to these conditions made by the Catholic Church have enabled cremation to be considered an acceptable option.

Catholic choices for Cremation (as per The Order of Christian Funerals, Appendix 2)- 1. When cremation takes place following the Funeral Liturgy.  2. When cremation and committal take place following the Funeral Liturgy.  3. When the cremated remains are present during the Funeral Liturgy. (Cremated remains are to be placed in an urn on a small stand positioned where the casket would normally be.  The urn may be carried to its place in the entrance procession or may be placed at the church before the Funeral Liturgy begins.)

The Catholic Church does not approve of the scattering of cremains, an irreversible process, or keeping the loved ones urn in the home.  Cremated remains are to receive appropriate disposition in the form of traditional in-ground burial in a Catholic, National, or private cemetery, or entombed in a columbarium or mausoleum.
