When Tom was about 8 years old, he knew he wanted to be a funeral director even though he didn’t have family in the business.   After graduating from Southern Huntingdon County High School in 1998, Tom attended Penn State University (Altoona, PA Campus).  While in Altoona, Tom worked at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home as a funeral assistant.  His employment at Mauk and Yates increased his passion and desire to become a funeral director.  After receiving the required credits from Penn State, he transferred to the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, Inc. (PIMS) where he graduated with Honors in 2001.  After graduation, he served his internship with the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Inc. in Orbisonia. In 2002, he became the Supervisor of the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home (a branch office of the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Inc.) in Cassville.

In 2003, Tom married his college sweetheart, Amy E. (Lukens) Ford in Philipsburg, PA.  Following the birth of their daughter, Lillie Kathryn; Tom, Amy and Lillie moved to the York area where Tom worked at a funeral home.  In October of 2005, Tom became a licensed funeral director with the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home.  Andy and Tom’s personalities mirror one another and the two instantly formed a strong friendship.

In 2007, Tom and his family bought a home in Millersville and in 2008, Tom and Amy were blessed with the birth of their second child, Alexander Vincent.  Tom and his family attend the Living Hope Community Church in Lancaster.  He is a member of the Charles M. Howell Lodge #496, F. & A. M., Millersville and the Lancaster Liederkranz. His hobbies include spending time with his family, fishing, listening to music, watching movies and playing with the family dog, a Neapolitan Mastiff, named Luciano.  Tom is involved in all aspects of funeral service with families at Scheid’s.  He has a strong passion for the funeral service and takes great pride in his work.
